![]() It gets the same precision fit as these pistols, too. The Range Officer® Compact has the same quality forged national match frame and slide as the Trophy Match™ and TRP™ competition 1911s. The ROC brings the precision of a competition pistol in a shortened (and in 9mm, lighter-recoiling) configuration. If you want a very high quality full featured 1911 that conceals better than a full-sized pistol, the Range Officer® Compact from Springfield Armory®, chambered in 45 ACP and 9mm, offers finely tuned performance in a smaller, lighter yet easy to shoot package. I'm happy!īelow I've expanded Springfield's short description of Range Officer features with many more features that they left out. From a sandbag rest it can hold about a 3" group at 25 yards which I think is pretty good. My RO Compact also hits to the left, about 3". Actually both pistols are much alike, 4" barrels and a grip that holds one less round than the full length grip.Īnyway, I'm real pleased with the new ROC9, my first Springfield and my first 9mm 1911. I remembered the Star PD was a handful in 45ACP and only weighed a few ounces less than the ROC. I made my decision, went back and bought the 9mm. Then Friday when I handled the new Springfield Range Officer Compact I was pretty convinced that was THE ONE but went back home empty handed to google a couple hours and mull it over. The PD works again but doesn't get fired much anymore. Star closed their doors long ago and parts are scarce so I had to get a firing pin fabricated. I probably have less than a thousand rounds through it over 25 years yet carried it a lot (as Jeff Cooper recommended!), then I broke the firing pin (dry firing the PD is a no-no but I didn't know that back then). ![]() It is a pretty reliable gun but fragile and kicks like a mule. Though the big 45 has been an outstanding carry companion over the years I still wanted a Commander/Officer's model but it never made it to the top of the list.Īctually, that's not quite true, in 1981 I bought a Star PD which is like an Officer's model with a 4" barrel and a 6-round grip. In fact in 1976 I chose the Colt Mark IV Series '70 Government Model over the Combat Commander. I've been wanting a Commander size 1911 for a long time and looked at dozens over the years but for one reason or another I never got one. ![]()
